“When the soul betrays itself and looses the blessed and longed-for fervor, let it carefully investigate the reason for loosing it. And let it arm itself with all its longing and zeal against whatever caused this. For the former fervor can only return through the same door through which it was lost.”

St. John Climacus

The Ladder of Divine Ascent

I do not think it possible that the soul betray itself.

That said, it is possible for the intellect to betray the deep self and leave it feeling very empty and deprived…burned out.

It is true that the way back from that is to find our fervor again.

In that movie K-Pax…remember that movie?…the task was to find the blue bird of happiness.

That’s how you find your fervor again.

Find your happy thought and embrace it with the enthusiasm of a child.

Yes, I gardened today. *smiles*
*grins* Oh…! that must mean you are feeling better. Yay! ((big hugs))

Shannee, surely creative love will find the bluebird of happiness and banish depression.
But tis different for each of us.
Love and warm hugs,
Paul.
I think that our inner selves will seek that blue bird of happiness too Paul and that if we let it, it will lead us back to our happy thought. *smiles*

My bluebird is one of the last things that I unpack when we move and one of the first things I unpack. He reminds me of this lesson….and my grandmother. :)
Aw! I think that’s just perfect. *smiles* ((big warm hugs))

The state of mind which enables a man to do work of this kind is akin to that of the religious worshiper or the lover; the daily effort comes from no deliberate intention or program, but straight from the heart. Photobucket
